COMMUNITY

LAMA HOURANI CREATIONS:

-Heritage: Inspired by the abundant natural bounty and rich cultural landscape of
Jordan, each of her collections is imbued with the traditions and
civilizations of the past, re-casted as stunning amulets for the future –
celebrating both our shared heritage and modern diversity. Presenting Jordan's beauty to the world.

- Workshop: Some of our Artisans have been with us since the very beginning. We are proud of our quality and care for details; our Silversmiths have eveloved with us as we grow. We train intensively until we reach the quality we have always aimed for. Our project supports around Twenty families whether through direct employment or out sourcing projects.

- Women empowerment: The
jewelry assembling section in the workshop trains & hires women from
underprivileged backgrounds and gives them the skill to be productive
& creative. We also collaborate with women working from their homes
for production, using their embroidery skills to make customized pieces.

- Packaging:
The packaging is produced from recycled materials by the Royal Society
for the conservation of Nature, which aims to conserve the biodiversity
of Jordan and integrate its conservation programs with socio-economic
development, while promoting wider public support and action for the
protection of the natural environment within Jordan and neighboring
countries.

- Jewelry: The raw materials are ethically
sourced from suppliers running ethical businesses where no human rights
are violated in production or labor.

AFFITIATION:

Lama was happy to have joined so many inspiring women & the legendary Bill Clinton on Thursday November 17, 2011 at the Women for Women Gala in NYC; and thrilled that a Lama Hourani original helped raise money to advance women's empowerment globally. www.womenforwomen.org

LAMA HOURANI & U Magazine Competition:

U Magazine and LAMA HOURANI Creations teamed up in May 2010 and organized a competition targeting young emerging talents in Art, Fashion and Design in celebration of LAMA HOURANI’s 10 year anniversary, where candidates picked their favorite piece and created and styled pieces of art inspired from her jewelry. We received many innovative entries and picked our top four: Natasha Dahdaleh, Mohammed Khost, Hind Adeeb and the winner Camilla Thomson, who received her favorite LAMA HOURANI piece as a prize. Jewelry making courses for kids:

We have been giving this course to children between the ages of 6-12 since 2008. The course teaches the children how to make simple jewelry pieces, develop their artistic sense and be introduced to important materials used in jewelry making. The course starts with inspiration, sketching, choice of color and finally allows the children to create their very own jewelry pieces that reflect their uniqueness and creativity.

Youth:

Lama strongly believes in Art Education and to
that effect she has spoken at career days, and presented motivational
speeches at local schools to emphasize on the importance of art,
following dreams and achieving goals.

Foresight32 Art Gallery:

Due to her family’s long legacy in art, Lama went on to promote art from Jordan & the Arab world by bringing international experiences to exhibit their talents at Foresight32 Art Gallery, which features a variety of art with a message, whether political or social, to provoke & encourage debate for a free art environment. Foresight32 ensures that women artists are supported as we believe in self expression via art.

Exhibitions:

- The Pakistani women miniatures exhibition: An exhibition to raise money for the rehabilitation of the 2005 earth quake victims, and provide them with food & shelter.

- I come from there & I remember: In collaboration with the UNRWA, this was an exhibition of photography, art, legal documents, cutlery, fashion & personal belongings for 1948 Palestinians .

- ERASING THE BLACK DAY: A collective exhibition by 30 Jordanian artists that expressed their feelings with black & white artworks to condemn the terrorist attacks on Jordan on November 9, 2005, and support the victims’ families.

Upcoming projects:

UNITY FOR Foundation

The world’s first 100% financially transparent “Concert Philanthropy” dedicated to empowering a Global Community to come together and create positive impact on the world’s challenges.

www.unityfor.org

Lama will be designing a line exclusively for “Unity for Foundation”; where proceeds will support the initiative.

Zikra Initiative:

The Zikra Initiative diminishes the socio-economic gap by conducting programs where urban and marginalized community residents may engage, interact, and exchange resources. This exchange model denotes an ‘equal relationship;’ eliminating the ‘give and take’ dynamic, and replacing it with a basic exchange. Zikra also holds a Development through an Arts and Culture program where collaboration between city and local residents stimulates the local community’s skills and creativity to widen their career opportunities.

Lama will be closely collaborating with the Zikra Initiative to create an eco friendly jewelry line out of used plastic bags.
